Nearly all treatment is aimed at controlling the disease for as long as possible and keeping symptoms under control. You may have chemotherapy, radiotherapy or surgery. If you have early mesothelioma, you may be able to have surgery, followed by chemotherapy or radiotherapy, or both.

Surgery                    (Surgery, by itself, has proved disappointing.)

Radiation             (For patients with localized disease, and who can tolerate a radical surgery, radiation can be given post-operatively as a consolidative treatment.)

Chemotherapy     (Chemotherapy is the only treatment for mesothelioma that has been proven to improve survival in randomised and controlled trials.)

This is probably the cause of peritoneal Mesothelioma. If you have been exposed to asbestos, your family may also have been exposed. Asbestos fibres can be carried home on your clothes. Research studies have confirmed that the families of people exposed to asbestos also have a higher risk of developing Mesothelioma.

Mesothelioma is caused almost exclusively by asbestos exposure when fibers are inhaled or ingested into the body.

The only known cause of mesothelioma is asbestos exposure.

Mesothelioma is a rare form of CANCER.
Develops from cells of the Mesothelium. 

The protective lining that covers many of the internal organs of the body.

Mesothelioma is most commonly causing by exposure of asbestos.

Mesothelioma is a type of cancer that most often starts in the covering of the lungs (pleural mesothelioma) but can also start in the abdomen.
